Inner wealth is the goal of ENERGYPARENTING and it’s all about building a child’s spirit.
“Children have to be stronger on the inside to not only make it in this world, but to make it a better world,” Howard Glasser states in his book, All Children Flourishing: Igniting the Greatness of Our Children. It’s one of my favorite Howie quotes because it gets right to the heart of what we’re all about.
We’ve all met kids and adults who appear to have it all – looks, smarts, money – but they’re miserable and lost; bankrupt in spirit. We’ve met others – plain, average, just getting by – and they’re happy and grounded; rich in spirit. One doesn’t preclude the other; it’s certainly possible to have looks, smarts, money AND be strong on the inside. But if you’ve got the right stuffing, the physical and material circumstances that life deals us just don’t matter that much. That’s recession and depression proof in every sense of the words!
Spirit always wins. It beats brawn. It circumvents fate. It enables living large on next to nothing. When the chips are down, the thing that’ll keep us all up is inner wealth.

When parents reflect that their children are making wise choices, the children make more wise choices. When we recognize that our children possess qualities of greatness – in respect, in perseverance, in honesty – whatever qualities we call out simply magnify before our eyes. When we reinforce that their feelings are valid guideposts, our children become more aware, attuned and intuitive. When we applaud their ability to handle strong feelings – to face their fears, to speak their truths, to hold their boundaries – they rise to new levels of self mastery and confidence in who they are.
When children grow up learning to believe in themselves, when they know in the depths of their souls that they are all they were meant to be, they stay true to themselves and fulfill their life purpose. When children are seen, heard and appreciated for the unique and worthwhile individuals that they are, they become spiritual giants.
We are raising the Davids and Donnas who will thwart the Goliaths of hard times and negative naysayers. They’ll do it with a handmade slingshot and a few river rocks lobbed in perfect timing and trajectory. When these giants fall, our children will lead us into a new way of life.
